GOOD TO KNOW

TREKKING BOOTS

  1. Comfort: Your trekking boots should be comfortable, fit well, and provide good ankle support. Make sure to wear them before the trek to break them in and avoid blisters.

  2. Durability: Choose trekking boots that are made of durable materials and have a sturdy sole to withstand the rough terrain of the trek.

  3. Waterproofing: The trek includes crossing streams and walking through wet and muddy trails. Therefore, it is recommended to choose waterproof trekking boots to keep your feet dry and comfortable.

  4. Weight: Lightweight trekking boots are preferred as they are more comfortable and reduce the strain on your legs and feet.

  5. Size: Choose trekking boots that are at least one size bigger than your normal shoe size. This allows room for thicker socks and prevents your toes from hitting the front of the boot while trekking downhill.

  6. Brand: Choose trekking boots from a reputed brand that specializes in outdoor footwear. Some popular brands include Salomon, La Sportiva, Scarpa, and Vasque.

CLOTHING LAYERS

  1. Base Layer: This layer should be made of moisture-wicking fabric that keeps you dry and comfortable. A long-sleeved shirt and long underwear are recommended.

  2. Insulating Layer: This layer provides warmth and insulation. A fleece jacket or down jacket is recommended.

  3. Outer Layer: This layer protects you from wind and rain. A waterproof and breathable jacket and pants are recommended.

  4. Trekking Pants: Choose pants that are comfortable and allow for a full range of motion. Trekking pants made of quick-drying and breathable fabric are ideal.

  5. Trekking Shorts: Lightweight trekking shorts are recommended for lower altitude and warmer weather.

  6. Headwear: A warm hat and a sun hat with a brim are recommended to protect you from the sun and cold.

  7. Gloves: Warm and waterproof gloves are recommended to protect your hands from the cold and wind.

  8. Socks: Bring a few pairs of warm and moisture-wicking socks. Wool or synthetic materials are recommended.

  9. Trekking Shoes: Bring comfortable and waterproof trekking shoes that provide good ankle support.

TREKKING POLES

  1. Stability: Trekking poles provide additional stability, especially during steep ascents and descents, which can reduce the strain on your legs and improve your balance.

  2. Support: Trekking poles can help take the weight off your knees and transfer it to your arms, which can help reduce the impact on your joints.

  3. Endurance: Using trekking poles can help increase your endurance and reduce fatigue by distributing the workload across your whole body.

  4. Safety: Trekking poles can help you maintain your balance on slippery and uneven terrain, such as river crossings or muddy trails.

When choosing trekking poles, consider the following:

  1. Material: Trekking poles can be made of different materials such as aluminum or carbon fiber. Aluminum poles are more affordable and durable, while carbon fiber poles are lighter but more expensive.
