The Annapurna Base Camp and Mardi Himal hike begins with a bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara, where we will stay for one night. We will transport you from Pokhara to Dhampus, the starting point for Annapurna area hikes. The first day of trekking ends at Deurali, where you may enjoy views of the Annapurna peaks.

The Mardi Himal and ABC trip continues. From Deurali, you will go to Forest Camp and High Camp, passing through subtropical and alpine environments. On your fifth day, you will leave High Camp early to reach Mardi Himal Base Camp in time to enjoy the soft morning rays that will colour the adjacent snow peaks.

After exploring the Mardi Himal Base Camp, you'll head down to Low Camp to Jhinu Danda. A soak in the neighbouring hot springs is a must-do while visiting Jhinu Danda. The second stage of the trek begins at Jhinu Danda, and it leads to Annapurna Base Camp. The next day, you'll continue north to Bamboo, where you'll spend the night.

From Bamboo, you will go to Deurali. The foliage becomes scarce, and you may feel cold as you pass through bamboo forests. After going through bamboo forests, you will arrive at the Himalaya, which is noted for its glacial mountain scenery.

On the ninth day of the Mardi Himal and Annapurna Base Camp journey, you will arrive at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). You will hike past the Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC) on your way to ABC. ABC is surrounded by spectacular high peaks like as Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Singu Chuli, Gangapurna, Khangsar Kang, Annapurna III, and Tent Peak. You will spend one night at Annapurna Base Camp itself.

The next morning, you will depart Annapurna Base Camp and go to Jhinu Danda via Bamboo. You can take another plunge in the hot springs near Jhinu Danda before continuing on to Siwa/Ghandruk Phedi via Nayapul. From Nayapul, drive to Pokhara. You will have one more day to enjoy Pokhara's modern amenities before returning to Kathmandu. Your Mardi Himal and Annapurna journey concludes in Kathmandu.

ITINERARY

Expand All
You will leave Kathmandu early in the morning via tourist bus, flight, or private jeep. The bus will leave Kathmandu and go down the Prithivi Highway, which passes by the banks of the Trishuli and Marsyandi rivers. From the bus, you may see quaint villages, verdant woodlands, and terraced farms. Pokhara is renowned for its breathtaking beauty, surrounded by the Annapurna ranges, Machhapuchhare, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu snow peaks.
Dhampus is a two-hour drive from Pokhara and the starting point for the journey. So, after breakfast in Pokhara, we'll head to Dhampus. On the route, you'll visit several traditional villages belonging to various ethnic groups, including Brahmins, Magars, and Gurungs. In the background, you will see the Annapurna Ranges welcome you. From Dhampus, you will walk to Deurali. Deurali provides beautiful views of glaciers emanating from Annapurna South.
On this day, you will leave Deurali and travel to Forest Camp via a path that slowly ascends through woods of rhododendrons, birch, oak, maple, and hemlock, affording excellent opportunities to see leopards, monkeys, deer, and a variety of local bird species.
You will leave Forest Camp in the morning and head for High Camp. The routes are challenging but rewarding, offering stunning views of the Annapurna range, Macchapuchhare, Annapurna Base Camp valley, and Mardi Himal. However, the walk begins with a trail that leads through dense forests, which give way to shrubs and grasslands as you ascend. As you continue your journey, you will witness the Modi Khola (river) Valley on your left, and the Mardi Khola (river) and Seti river valleys to your right. On a clear day, you can see as far as Pokhara.
You'll get up early to see the sun rise over the majestic Annapurna Range. After breakfast, we will transport you to the Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 meters). The trails are a little difficult, but the views of the alpine landscape from the base camp are equally spectacular. After admiring the views from Mardi Himal, you will retire to Low Camp for the night.
After breakfast, we continue our descent through numerous forests to Siding village, passing by the Gurung village of Landruk before arriving at Jhinu Danda. Natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda provide a relaxing environment for tired muscles.
The hike begins at Jhinu Danda and continues through the Nayagaon to Chomrong hamlet. You'll cross the Chomrong River and ascend a ridge near the Modi River. The trail continues through bamboo forests, small communities, and terraced fields to Siruwa village, then Bamboo village.
The first portion of the walk (to Mardi Himal) is completed, and you will now follow a trail to Annapurna Base Camp. First, you'll pass through a dense bamboo forest that is cold and damp all year. Then come more forests, which become thinner as you approach Himalaya, a high-altitude hamlet. From the Himalaya, you can see a glacier river running downstream, but you must continue on dry and arid trails to reach Hinku Cave. The trek begins with Hinku Cave and descends to the Modi Khola river bank before ascending to Deurali.
Today will be a memorable day since you will arrive at Annapurna Base Camp, your ideal destination. Early in the morning, you will begin your trip along the paths, which allow close-up views of breathtaking mountains. Before arriving at Annapurna Base Camp, you will pass Machhapuchhare Base Camp while admiring the views of Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, and Gangapurna. It will take you another hour of climbing to reach Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). The Annapurna Base Camp is bordered by Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Singu Chuli, Gangapurna, Khangsar Kang, Annapurna III, and Tent Peaks. The view from ABC is both peaceful and satisfying.
After taking in the views from ABC (Annapurna Base Camp), it's time to return. The trail descends along the Modi River and out of the Annapurna Sanctuary. You will pass via the villages of Dovan and Deurali along the way.
You will leave Bamboo and travel upward to Khuldighar and Sinuwa villages. As you continue from Sinuwa, you will arrive at Chomrong Village. From Chomrong, climb for about half an hour to Chomrong Ridge before descending to Jhinu Danda. There are natural hot springs near Jhinu Danda, and we will take you there to relax your sore muscles.
You'll continue down from Jhinu Danda to Modi Khola valley, passing through towns, terraced farms, and wooden and suspension bridges. The highlands gradually give place to gentler plains until Nayapul. The hike ends in Nayapul, where you will board a bus to Pokhara.
It is time to conclude the journey. After breakfast, you will board a tourist bus and go to Kathmandu. The bus will first follow the Marshyangdi River, then the Trishuli River. As the bus travels down Prithivi Highway, you will view magnificent mountains, terraced fields, and lush forests. After one more ascent, the bus will take you back to Kathmandu, where your journey will end. Later in the day, Himalayan Yoga and Excursion will host a farewell supper in Kathmandu.

GOOD TO KNOW

Best time to trek

The finest seasons for trekking are spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). Clear skies, calm weather, and blooming rhododendrons in April provide the best views of the Himalayas.

Trek Duration

The Mardi Himal Trek takes approximately 5-7 days, whereas the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek typically lasts 7-12 days. A combined trek can be completed in 12 to 15 days, depending on the pace and itinerary.

Trek Difficulty

Both treks are considered moderate. No technical climbing is necessary, although strong physical conditioning is essential. Expect 5-7 hours of trekking every day, including difficult ascents and descents at high altitudes.

ABC is located at 4,130 meters, whereas Mardi Himal Viewpoint reaches 4,500 meters. Altitude sickness may occur.

Permits Required

Trekkers require two permits:

  • TIMS Card (Trekkers' Information Management System), ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit).
  • These can be arranged with a travel agency or in Pokhara/Kathmandu.
